This page collects common questions about using Macaly, building websites and web applications, and publishing projects.

Do I need coding skills to use Macaly?

No. In Macaly, projects can be built and edited using instructions written in ordinary language. You do not need to write HTML, CSS or JavaScript yourself to get started.

Technical knowledge can help when planning complex projects, but it is not a basic requirement for using Macaly.

Can I build more than websites with Macaly?

Yes. Macaly can also be used to build web applications with forms, databases, user views, dashboards and other functionality.

Can I use my own domain?

Yes, if your Macaly plan supports connecting a custom domain. Macaly Free uses a domain provided by Macaly. Macaly Pro supports custom domains.

The domain is connected to the project using the DNS records shown by Macaly.

Can I use a subdomain for a web application?

Yes. A project can be published at an address such as app.company.fi if the domain’s DNS settings and the Macaly project are configured for it.

Does Macaly provide email mailboxes?

Macaly does not replace a standard email service. The domain’s email can be hosted, for example, in a Domainhotelli web hosting package, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace while the website or

web application is hosted in Macaly.

Do not change the email MX records when connecting the website domain unless the email service is also being moved.

Can I edit the project later?

Yes. You can open the project in Macaly later and continue developing it through the conversation or with Edit design.

Remember to republish the project when you want later changes to appear in the public version.

What happens if Macaly makes the wrong change?

You can first ask Macaly to correct the change with a new instruction. If necessary, you can return to an earlier project version using Restore this version in the conversation history.

Can I use my existing website as a starting point?

Yes. You can give Macaly the URL of an existing website and explain what you want to use as the starting point for the new project.

For example, you can keep the current content structure but ask Macaly to redesign the visual appearance.

Can I give Macaly images, sketches or PDF files?

Yes. You can give Macaly images, logos, sketches and PDF files as source or reference material for the project.

Explain how you want the material to be used.

Can Macaly use a database?

Yes. Macaly has a built-in database solution that can be used to store form data, users, bookings, content and other information used by web applications.

Can I build an online store?

Macaly can be used to build web solutions related to products, orders and payments, but the implementation of a larger online store depends on the project requirements and the available integrations.

Macaly is not WooCommerce or another ready-made ecommerce platform, so payment methods, shipping methods, inventory management and other required features should be defined before implementation.

Why is my change not visible in the published project?

The editable version and the published version in Macaly are separate. After making changes, review them in Preview and publish the project again.

Can I publish multiple projects?

With Macaly Free, you can create multiple projects but publish one. Features of paid plans depend on the selected product.

What does Macaly Hosting mean?

Macaly Hosting is intended for situations where a finished website built with Macaly should remain published without recurring AI credits.

The plan keeps the existing website hosted, allows supported manual changes and can be upgraded back to Pro later if needed.

Do all changes use AI credits?

Direct changes made with Edit design do not typically use AI credits. Features that use AI, such as building and editing requests sent to the Agent, Ask AI, AI image editing and Fix with AI, may use credits.

The number of credits and how they renew depend on the Macaly plan you are using.

Can I make a copy of the project before a larger change?

A project can be duplicated in Macaly, which is useful before a larger experiment or when building an alternative version.

Can I move the project away from Macaly later?

Some Macaly plans or provider implementations may include options related to source code export or GitHub. Availability can vary.

Does the project need to be finished before publishing?

Not necessarily. You can build and test the project step by step. However, a version intended to be public should be reviewed carefully before connecting your own domain.
